Nate Diaz Announces Intentions to Promote Combat Sports Events

Nate Diaz is ready to expand his role in the world of combat sports.

One of the UFC’s most popular figures, Diaz today revealed his intention to launch a new promotion that “will focus on promoting combat sports shows, specifically boxing, MMA and Brazilian jiu-jitsu,” under the name Real Fight, Inc.

According to an official statement from the Diaz team, “the new venture has no bearing on his status as a fighter, where he will continue to be very active. Real Fight, Inc. is his expansion into the business side of the sport where he has been a fixture for close to 20 years.”

“The best fighters in the world aren’t the ones they tell you,” Diaz tells MMA Underground. “It’s the real fighters who know how to put on a show, and that’s what we’re going to do—in MMA, in boxing, in jiu-jitsu. All of it.”

Diaz rep Zach Rosenfield said the new promotion intends to file an initial promoter’s license in California, where “The Ultimate Fighter 5” winner and his older brother, fellow MMA superstar Nick Diaz, have proudly represented throughout their legendary careers.

“Real Fight, Inc. is the next step for Nate in expanding his business presence, both in and out of the world of combat sports,” Rosenfield says. “He has always had a clear vision of who he is as a fighter, which will immediately carry over to the new promotion.”

Diaz (20-13 MMA, 15-11 UFC) has been a mainstay of the UFC roster for the past 15 years, perhaps most famously serving as the first man to hand former two-division UFC champion Conor McGregor a loss in the promotion’s famed Octagon. Diaz, 37, is set to headline Saturday’s UFC 279 event in Las Vegas against fast-rising undefeated contender Khamzat Chimaev (11-0 MMA, 5-0 UFC) at T-Mobile Arena.

Diaz has openly discussed his desire to pursue options outside of the organization following the bout, though UFC president Dana White has also said the Stockton native would be worthy of a welterweight title shot should he defeat Chimaev.

Regardless of what comes next, Diaz’s team insists he will continue to compete moving forward, though Real Fight Inc. will become a chief focus for him, as well.

“The promotion will look to attract fighters from around the world, whether it be up-and-coming prospects or household names who fit the brand of ‘Real ninjas. Real fighters. Real sh-t,'” a statement read.

PDC to expand Women’s Series to 24 events in 2023; Women’s World Matchplay will be staged again

The Professional Darts Corporation has announced that its Women’s Series will expand to 24 events for the 2023 season with £145,000 in prize money to be offered in total.

The eight-player Women’s World Matchplay – which is being staged for the first time this Sunday in Blackpool, live on Sky Sports from 1pm – will return in 2023.

Fallon Sherrock and Lisa Ashton are among the players competing at the first Women’s World Matchplay.

Qualification for that event next year will come from a 12-month Order of Merit commencing from the Women’s Series events in August 2022.

The Order of Merit will include eight tournaments across the remaining two Women’s Series weekends of 2022 as well as an expected 12 events in the first half of 2023.

Twenty-four Women’s Series events will be held across six weekends next year. Each tournament is worth £5,000 in prize money.

PDC Chief Executive Matt Porter said: “We’ve been hugely encouraged by the increased interest in the PDC Women’s Series this year, with entries up by 50 percent to 100 on average, and there’s a lot of excitement ahead of the Betfred Women’s World Matchplay on Sunday.

“The Women’s World Matchplay will feature a great mix of experienced players and emerging faces, and it’s going to be fascinating to see them on stage at the Winter Gardens challenging for that title.

“With players also competing in the Cazoo Grand Slam of Darts and Cazoo World Championship, the opportunities for women within the PDC have never been greater and it’s a boost that we can continue to grow this aspect of the sport in 2023.”

The Women’s Series will continue with events 13-16 in Hildesheim, Germany on August 27-28 ahead of the year’s final weekend in Wigan on October 29-30 with events 17-20.

Yoshinoya Holdings Co. announced on May 9 that it will stop checking the nationalities of job applicants seeking to attend the company’s recruitment events in prescreening to remove them from the process.

The move comes in response to public backlash over its rejection of a university student from a company recruitment event for its subsidiary, the beef bowl restaurant chain Yoshinoya Co.

It rejected the student on the grounds that the person was a foreign national, despite failing to contact the individual to confirm the fact.

According to Yoshinoya Holdings, it had emailed multiple students to stop them from participating in the event. But the company said it has since emailed or phoned all of them and apologized.

It also informed them of future recruitment events the company will hold, and some of them said they want to attend these events, according to the company.

“We would like to prevent a recurrence of this incident,” a representative for Yoshinoya Holdings said.

When the incident first came to light, Yoshinoya Holdings cited previous cases where it had to cancel job offers for foreign nationals studying in Japan because they were unable to obtain work visas. It admitted it has been screening out applicants it assumed were foreign nationals from its recruitment events since 2021.

However, the company will warn foreign students at these events about the possibility they may be unable to obtain work visas after receiving a job offer, it said.

The latest flap comes in the wake of another scandal just weeks ago, when the company fired a managing director for making derogatory remarks about young women.

What is Monobob? Breaking Down One of the Winter Olympics’ Newest Events

The bobsled events at the Winter Olympics are traditionally some of the most exciting and most highly-anticipated competitions on the calendar, but this year features a new addition to the program, as the “Monobob” event makes its Olympic debut.

The introduction of “Monobob” is the first chance to the bobsledding competition calendar since 2002, when the two-woman bobsled event was introduced in Salt Lake City.

So the question remains…..

What is Monobob?

As the name implies, “Monobob” is a race where one competitor races down a specially-designed ice track in a bobsled.

The event was voted into the Winter Olympics program back in 2018, and is making its debut this year in Beijing.

Currently, only women’s “Monobob” is an Olympic sport. Women also race in the two-person event, while on the men’s side, two-man and four-man bobsledding are both Olympic events.

How is the Event Conducted?

In the Monobob event, each competitor will take four runs down the track, with the combined time of the four runs determining the winner.

The first two runs took place on Sunday in Beijing, while the final two runs will begin on Sunday night at 7:30 p.m. Central time (9:30 a.m. Beijing time).

Who is Competing From the United States?

The United States entered two competitors in the Monobob event. Kaillie Humphries is currently in first place with a combined time of 2:09.10, while Elana Meyers Taylor is in fourth place with a combined time of 2:10.42.

How Has the U.S. Fared in Previous Olympics?

The United States won one medal in bobsled in the 2018 Olympics, with Meyers Taylor and Lauren Gibbs teaming up to win the silver in the two-woman event.

Meyers Taylor also won the silver medal in Sochi in 2014, with Jamie Greubel and Aja Evans winning bronze.

Steven Holcomb and Steven Langton won the silver medal in Sochi in the two-man bobsled, while the duo also won silver in the four-man bobsled with Curtis Tomasevicz and Christopher Fogt.

Where Will the Race Air?

The monobob event will air live on NBCOlympics.com, and will also air on NBC following the conclusion of Super Bowl LVI.
