Marvel Updates Matt Murdock’s On-Screen Report, Confirms ‘Daredevil’ Events Are MCU Canon

Marvel Updates Matt Murdock’s On-Screen Report, Confirms ‘Daredevil’ Events Are MCU Canon

In a move that many fans of the Man Without Fear have been waiting for, Marvel has updated the official on-screen report for Matt Murdock (Daredevil) located here.

After Charlie Cox reprised his role as Matt Murdock in 2021’s Spider-Man: No Way Home in a brief cameo, fans began to question whether this was the same Matt we’d seen in the former Netflix series, or if this was a “variant” of the character. The updates to the report have finally given fans a definitive answer as to whether or not the events of Daredevil are canon to the Marvel Cinematic Universe, and thankfully that answer is yes, and that we are seeing the same Matt Murdock we’ve always seen (just not the Ben Affleck version, thankfully).

Following a description of the final events of season 3 of Daredevil, where Matt attends the funeral for Father Lantom, makes amends with Sister Maggie, and reconciles with Foggy and Karen, the report now continues on:

“Sometime later, Matt was hired as an attorney to defend Peter Parker, as Peter had been publicly outed as Spider-Man and accused of Mysterio’s murder. Though Peter was legally cleared of any wrongdoing, Matt warned him he’d still have to face the court of public opinion and advised Harold “Happy” Hogan to hire a good lawyer. As if on cue, a protestor threw a brick through the window of the Parkers’ apartment in support of Mysterio. Fortunately, due to his heightened senses, Matt was able to catch the brick before it hurt anyone inside. When Peter asked him how he was able to do that, Matt claimed it was because he was a really good lawyer and left it at that.”

While these updates clearly confirm that we are seeing the same Daredevil we always have and that the events of Spider-Man: No Way Home do definitively take place after Daredevil season 3 chronologically, it does raise the question of whether or not Daredevil’s Defenders teammates are also considered canon to the MCU. Hopefully Marvel can and will provide fans an answer to that burning question soon.

These updates are likely not to be the last to come to Matt Murdock’s on-screen report as he is expected to make future appearances in the MCU as well, including a rumored appearance in She-Hulk which is slated to release later this year. Additionally, the rumor mill has been circulating for some time now that some sort of Daredevil reboot is in the works from Marvel studios, which you can read more about here.

Daredevil is now available to stream on its new home, Disney+, along with the other former-Netflix series. Spider-Man: No Way Home is available for digital purchase now, and will release on physical media on April 12.
