Training programme to manage sports events, tournaments held

Training programme to manage sports events, tournaments held

Muscat: A training programme was organised in managing sports events and tournaments by the Ministry of Education, represented by the Directorate-General of Administrative Affairs – Department of Training and Rehabilitation, in cooperation with the Omani School Sports Federation and the Ocean Institute.

The training programme kicked-off on Sunday morning, and will continue until Thursday at Al Amal Club.

The implementation of this training programme comes in light of the increase in the number of events organised annually by the sports committees in the educational governorates, which reach nearly 100 sports events in all governorates and require organising by specialists in managing events.

The programme targets 34 employees of the Office of the Omani School Sports Federation and the educational governorates to provide them with effective management skills and accurate planning.

Participants in the programme will obtain the necessary qualification to work in the management of sports events, through several themes, including methods of organising, evaluating, and managing sports events, financial and accounting management of sports events, management of sponsorship, financiers, designers, suppliers, stakeholders and the public, and attracting, managing and training employees and volunteers to work in sporting events, marketing sports events, and managing risks related to sports events.

Expect Kejriwal to be present in future events: LG’s message after Delhi CM skips joint programme

Expect Kejriwal to be present in future events: LG's message after Delhi CM skips joint programme

The feud between Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena and Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal escalated after the latter skipped a pre-decided combined programme on Sunday.

The LG said that he expects the Chief Minister to be present in future events “to give a message” that they “want to work together” for the city’s development.

A pre-decided combined programme of tree plantation drive at Asola Bhatti mines was organised, which was skipped by the Chief Minister.

The Delhi government sources said that the government programme was turned into a political BJP programme, because of which Kejriwal decided not to attend the event.

This comes days after Kejriwal skipped the weekly meeting called by the LG on Friday citing ill-health. However, the Aam Aadmi Party alleged that the LG had also skipped one of the meetings on July 8.

“Delhi Police forcefully took over the stage of Van Mohatsav before the programme. It is a Delhi government event, the CM and LG were to attend jointly. Posters showcasing Prime Minister Narendra Modi were put up and the government programme was turned into a political BJP programme. This is the reason Delhi CM and ministers decided not to attend the event,” said the AAP.

However, the Delhi LG said that he wanted Kejriwal to attend the event, adding that all should work together for this tree plantation drive.

“I wanted CM Arvind Kejriwal to attend this event but due to some reasons, he could not. This is a programme where all of us should work together. I expect him to be present in future events to give a message that we want to work together for Delhi’s development,” LG Saxena said during his address.

Earlier in the day, the sources said, “After absenting from the scheduled weekly meeting with Delhi Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena on Friday, citing ill health, Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday again skipped a pre-decided combined programme of tree plantation at Asola Bhatti mines in the national capital gain due to ill health”.

The said programme of tree plantation corresponding with the ‘Van Mahotsav’, was to be undertaken jointly by the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister.

A mutual decision in this regard had been taken on July 4, 2022. A total of 1,00,000 trees are planted as a part of the programme, and the Lieutenant Governor and Chief Minister were to launch the same together.

“One is left to wonder if recommending a CBI inquiry into an apparently illegal excise policy is taking the focus of the CM away from Delhi’s environmental concerns,” said LG sources.

Hay Festival unveils events as in-person programme returns for 2022

Hay Festival unveils events as in-person programme returns for 2022

The Hay Festival has revealed some of the 500 events taking place this Easter as the annual literary celebration runs in-person for the first time in three years.

Organisers have marked 100 days until the festival takes place with 22 early-bird events on sale now.

Returning for its first in-person spring event since 2019, the programme, which runs from 26th May to 5th June, will offer insights and debate in a range of topics featuring more than 600 award-winning writers, policymakers and experts.

Among the line-up of 500 events, the festival’s “10@10” series will showcase debut writers at 10 a.m. each morning on site, while a partnership with Publishing Wales spotlights Welsh publishers and their work.

Collaborations with eight leading universities will showcase the latest research in the arts and sciences in a Lunchtime Lecture series. The festival has also partnered with various organisations which will feature throughout the programme including the Booker Prize, the Royal Society, British Council, the TLS, Prospect, BookAid International and the British Library among others.

Organisers said: “A series of #HayFestival100 events on site will explore the iconic publishing year of 1922 and the century of literature that has followed, including discussions and performances of James Joyce’s Ulysses and T S Eliot’s The Waste Land. The public will be encouraged to share the books that have most influenced them from this past century of publishing.

“The Queen’s Platinum Jubilee will be marked with a series of conversations on Women and Power, while anniversaries of the BBC, Marcel Proust, and Ferdinand Magellan will be reflected in discussions.

“Lunchtimes at St Mary’s Church will be given over to live music, Hay Castle will be transformed into an open air space for daily performances, and late nights will be given over to a dynamic programme blending music and comedy with theatre and poetry.”

There will be a strong focus for young people too. The festival will run family-themed events, called Haydays, to “give young readers the opportunity to meet their heroes and get creative throughout the festival”. The Programme for Schools strand on 26th and 27th May allows teachers and pupils to access festival events for free.

The BBC will return to Hay Festival bringing some programmes and podcasts to the site in free events, while a selection of main-stage sessions will be streamed live via the festival’s Hay Player video and audio platform.

Hay international director Cristina Fuentes La Roche said: “Our 35th annual event in Wales, Hay Festival 2022 is going to be a return to remember and we look forward to welcoming friends – old and new – to our revamped festival site this May. As we put the finishing touches to this year’s line-up, we’re excited to preview some of this year’s themes: a promise of spring and a spark of hope for the year ahead.”
