‘D3’ is about a series of events that happen in a day! CanIndia News

ISPR denies media report on events at PM House CanIndia News

Director Balaaji’s upcoming thriller ‘D3’, which features actors Prajin and Vidya Pradeep in the lead, will be about a series of events that happen in just a day.

Giving out details of his film, Balaaji says, “I have created the story based on a real incident that I got to learn of and about which the public aren’t aware. This element will keep the screenplay racy from beginning till end.”

On the experience of shooting ‘D3’, the director says, “We have shot the movie despite serious challenges posed by nature. We started shooting the movie during the non-rainy season in Kuttralam. However, despite this, 70 per cent of our shooting days had a heavy downpour of rain. We had to complete filming, overcoming this challenge.”

“When we had finished 60 per cent of the shooting, Covid-19 hit the world and a 30-year-old actor, who had played a prominent role in the film, passed away due to Corona. Due to this, we had to reshoot his entire portion with another actor.

“Similarly, we had planned to shoot a few scenes in a famous hospital in Chennai. The cost of renting the place was Rs 2.5 lakh per day. On the morning of the shoot, we had made all arrangements when we got we the disappointing news that actor Varghese Mathew, who had landed at the Chennai airport from Hyderabad, had tested positive for Covid-19.

“We had no other option but to cancel the shoot. Such have been the challenges that we faced during the filming of D 3.”

Manoj of Bmass Entertainments and Samuel Godson of JKM Productions have jointly produced the film ‘D3’, the title look of which was revealed by filmmaker Venkat Prabhu recently.

While actor Charlie plays an important character, others in the cast include Varghese Mathew and ‘Mogamull’ Abhishek.

Esports community returns to in-person events with Manitoba tournament series | CBC News

Esports community returns to in-person events with Manitoba tournament series | CBC News

Manitoba Esports Association hosted its first in-person event since the beginning of the pandemic: a series of tournaments at the Radisson Hotel in Winnipeg.

Esports turn online gaming into a spectator sport as professional video game players form teams and compete in different games.

“There’s a huge community behind it. And and it it’s growing every single time that we have an event,” said Melanie Penner, executive director of operations for Manitoba Esports Association.

Penner estimates about 200 people came to play or watch the tournaments — more than she expected.

Gaming online is very different from gaming in-person, Penner said. The crowds are intense, and that’s why people love it so much, she said.

“I’ve been to a lot of sporting events and there’s nothing that that compares to esports. It’s something that you have to witness,” said Penner.

Gamer Daniel Patacsil hopes to become a professional video game player one day.

Patacsil, who’s from Winnipeg, said esports are a social event he takes part in with his friends. His team, Stim Esports, competed in tournaments on Saturday.

He said the experience of being in-person is much different from the experience online. People are more supportive of each other, regardless if they win or lose.

“When you play online against a team and they’re trash talking, it gets a little toxic. It kind of seems like they’re trying to hurt you,” Patacsil said.

“It’s much nicer to see everyone’s reactions [in-person]. Like after we make a crazy play, everyone’s just standing up [to] cheer on each other.”

Penner said the community in Manitoba aims to be inclusive to everyone.

Manitoba Esports Association partners with different organizations, such as Lotus 8 Esports, who advocate for inclusion within the video game community.

“We’re a very diverse group. We are always trying to cater to every new fan base that is up and coming,” Penner said, “Hopefully this shines a light and we are able to change the narrative [for] some people who may have not been able to shift their opinion on esports.”

The convention runs until Sunday night.

From Royal Rumble to Survivor Series: Marquee WWE events Cody Rhodes will miss due to torn pec

From Royal Rumble to Survivor Series: Marquee WWE events Cody Rhodes will miss due to torn pec

KEY HIGHLIGHTS

  • Cody Rhodes has been ruled out of action for 9 months due to a torn pec
  • The American Nightmare competed at Hell in a Cell with the injury
  • Cody is likely to be fit in time for Wrestlemania 39
Cody Rhodes‘ rise to the top of the WWE ladder was halted due to a torn pec that he suffered before his Hell in a Cell match against Seth Rollins. The American Nightmare looked set to establish himself after yet another win over Rollins but his rise quest to climb to the top was stymied due to the injury.
WWE has announced that Cody will stay out of action for 9 months, which rules him out of many marquee events. From Royal Rumble to Survivor Series, here’s a look at marquee events that Cody Rhodes will miss due to a torn pec –

Money in the Bank 2022

Cody was booked as the face of the company since his return and he was the sole superstar featured in the advertisement for Money in the Bank 2022. He became the center of attraction on the updated poster for the event. Despite the injury, the former Intercontinental Champion teased appearing on the show but he will now sit out of action for long.

Clash at the Castle

Cody was among very few superstars on the poster for Clash at the Castle 2022. The premium event will mark WWE’s comeback to the UK after 30 years. The UK hasn’t hosted a premium live event since SummerSlam 1992. Cody looked set to be part of a marquee match at the event. But the fans in Cardiff won’t be able to watch him in action.

SummerSlam

SummerSlam is the Biggest Part of the Summer and can draw countless fans to the stadium as Wrestlemania does. Before the Clash at the Castle, Cody would have been in action in a stadium against another top-rated superstar at SummerSlam.

Survivor Series

Survivor Series is one of the top 4 premium live events of the year and Cody would have probably led Team Raw or would have been a part of a championship match. In his absence, Bobby Lashley, Kevin Owens and Rollins could be the frontrunners to lead the red brand later in the year.

Royal Rumble 2023

After it was confirmed that Cody was competing against Rollins with a torn pec, the fans expected him to make his return at Royal Rumble 2023, which is scheduled to take place in January. But since he is out of action for 9 months, the WWE Universe shouldn’t expect him to be one of the surprise entrants at the event.

Cody remains in line to be back at Wrestlemania 39 and he might once again face Rollins at the Show of the Shows.

Endurance events marketplace Let’s Do This raises $60M Series B led by Craft and Headline – TechCrunch

Endurance events marketplace Let’s Do This raises $60M Series B led by Craft and Headline – TechCrunch

The appropriately named endurance (so: running, triathlon, cycling, etc.) events marketplace Let’s Do This (a YC alumni) appeared a couple of years ago listing all kinds of endurance activities globally and attracting the backing of stars such as Usain Bolt and Serena Williams, alongside more standard venture investors such as EQT.

Founded by Alex Rose and Sam Browne, both endurance runners and cyclists themselves, the startup has now raised a $60 million Series B round led by Craft Ventures and Headline. Also participating in the round were existing investors EQT, NFX and Y Combinator, as well as newcomer Morpheus Ventures. The celebrity backers include Serena Williams, Usain Bolt and U.K. gold-medal runner Paula Radcliffe. Angels include the founder of Gmail Paul Buchheit, as well as Ian Hogarth, founder of Songkick.

Sam Browne, co-founder, and CEO of Let’s Do This, said in a statement:

The global sports endurance market is worth an estimated $18 billion and, with face-to-face events finally a possibility again after a long hiatus, we know this is only set to grow … Excitingly, sport is just the beginning for Let’s Do This too. Thanks to the funding and support from our investors, we plan to extend into further verticals in the live events and experiences space.

Let’s Do This lists flagship events like Bay to Breakers, Long Beach Classic Half & 5K and Bay Bridge Half Marathon, but it’s clear that investors were attracted by the prospect of expanding into other verticals.

Part of the attraction to users, says the company, is that its algorithm uses data points from fitness tracking, race history and social connections to personalize its race recommendations. It’s easy to see how that could be broadened to “you liked this gig, so how about this one.”

It’s also tapping into a market that has realized that setting goals — such as for a race — helps someone stick to fitness. Research shows that people are 12.5 times more likely to develop a fitness habit 12 months after signing up to a race than from joining a gym.

Christian Leybold, partner at Headline, said:

There is a distinct camaraderie that group endurance events bring, but most organisers are stuck with low-tech platforms that offer a lacklustre user experience. With Let’s Do This, Alex and Sam have revolutionized how we bring offline experiences online.

Founded in 2016, Let’s Do This, says it now has more than 5 million users globally. It now plans a U.S. expansion via its new new Colorado office, and the growth of its U.K. team, as well as additional social features.

UP BJP to organise series of events to mark PM Modi’s 8-year rule

PM Narendra Modi addresses a gathering after inaugurating a 200-bed multi-specialty hospital at Atkot town in Gujarat

Uttar Pradesh’s BJP unit has planned a slew of programmes from May 30 to June 15 to mark the completion of eight years of the government at the Centre.

The focus of the events will be “service, good governance and welfare of the poor”, party leaders said on Sunday.

Elaborating on the plans, UP BJP’s general secretary (organisation) Sunil Bansal said under the ‘Report to Nation’ campaign, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, state unit president Swatantra Dev Singh, deputy chief ministers Keshav Maurya and Brajesh Patha, will talk about the achievements of the central government on June 1.

On June 2 and June 3, party MPs, district presidents, district in-charges, ministers and MLAs will release the booklet of achievements of eight years of governance in the districts.

Bansal also said that ’75 ghante booth per’ (75 hours at the booth) campaign will run from June 4 to June 14.

Under this, BJP MPs, MLAs and other public representatives, officials of the state, region and district and divisional level will join the campaign.

Bansal said after June 10, Union ministers will visit various districts of the state and talk about the 8-year rule of Modi.

He also said that on the occasion of World Yoga Day on June 21, yoga sessions will be organised at 25,000 places.

“On May 30, assistance will be given from PM CARES Fund to help the children who have lost their parents to coronavirus infection. On May 31, Modi will release the next installment of Kisan Samman Nidhi to farmers from Shimla. The programme will be broadcast in all the districts,” the UP BJP said in a statement issued here.

Highlights from RENEW: TEDxToronto’s flagship event series

Highlights from RENEW: TEDxToronto’s flagship event series

Spanning three thoughtfully curated evenings of new ideas, new perspectives, and engaging dialogue.

Guests gathered in the Royal Ontario Museum’s charming Eaton Theatre for TEDxToronto’s flagship event on May 17—the initiative’s first live event in over two years. “There’s an unmatched sense of connection that’s created when we gather in person,” says event co-chair Gillian Cameron. “While ideas are a huge part of why we gather, it’s the conversations we have about these ideas that make TEDxToronto events really special.”

Inspired by the global resilience proven over the course of the pandemic, this year’s theme of renewal addressed a unique opportunity for pause and reflection. “RENEW is a chance to reestablish our perspectives and a chance for all of us to reimagine what our collective future could look like,” says Cameron. “In reflecting on where we’ve been, what we’ve been through and what we want to do differently as a global society, I hope our attendees can take these ideas and turn them into action.”

During night one of the three-evening event, four inspiring speakers shared the TEDxToronto stage—each advocating for different ways to shape ‘how we care’ through the ethos of business, news media, performing arts and the power of local community.

Tariq Fancy, former Wall Street investor turned non-profit founder, called out inaction within the corporate world; advocating for a generation of “young people today, who see a system that is not responding to long-term challenges.” Kelly Boutsalis, journalist and lead producer of CBC’s Six Nations Bureau, shared her experience in discovering the power of authentic representation, and what happens when Indigenous people are able to tell their own stories.

Chandra Maracle, founder of Kakhwa’on:we/Real People Eat Real Food, energized a new conversation around motherhood, postpartum and the role of healthy food access in preventative healthcare. Earning a standing ovation, award-winning human beatboxer Andre Gibson closed the show with a story of overcoming anxiety by way of creative expression and an incredible live performance.

The sold-out event, live-streamed for viewers at home, garnered laughs, tears and an eager audience that met after the talks for an open brainstorming and networking session. A common topic of discussion: the importance of access to such educational and inspiring events.

For the fourth year in a row, TEDxToronto has practiced a subsidised ticket program to break down financial barriers for attendees, and has donated more than 500 tickets to local organizations including The 519 Community Centre, ImagiNATIVE and FoodShare Toronto. As the city continues to move toward the end of a pandemic, and anticipates a greater sense of togetherness, the 70-plus volunteers that make up TEDxToronto are already working on the next chapter that will spread ideas, build community and change lives across Toronto and the world.
