The food is first come first serve, and will begin serving at 12pm in the Clinton Museum backyard, and will go until 1pm, with entry by donation.

Coronado Tasting Room on Giving Back and Summer Events – Coronado Times

Coronado Tasting Room on Giving Back and Summer Events - Coronado Times

Coronado Tasting Room, a VomFASS franchise, opened last February and they have become an integral part of the community. The owners, Colleen and Jay Cavalieri, are Coronado locals and enjoy giving back to Coronado. Colleen says, “We donate to every Coronado organization that asks!” That list includes Coronado Schools Foundation and most recently PAWS. June 4th, they had “caninedates” outside Coronado Tasting room from 1 to 4pm. Voters were able to meet the dogs, cast their votes and venture into Coronado Tasting Room and Vom Fass to enjoy a beverage and charcuterie. 10% of sales all day were donated to PAWS.

In May, Coronado Tasting Room supported the Navy Bay Bridge Run / Walk by opening hours early to accommodate the participants and supporters with libations. Also in May, they participated in the Coronado Art and Wine Festival, which brought essential funding to STEM & Arts programs at Coronado public schools.

Coming up is Coronado’s 4th of July, one of the most celebrated days of the year. Colleen is excited to offer special seating for 4th events, noting that Coronado Tasting Room at the Ferry Landing has one of the best views for fireworks. Plan to enjoy a drink and some charcuterie. Call ahead at 619-534-5034 to reserve your seat!

Of the past year, Colleen says nothing has really surprised her. “We are so excited to be here. We have lived here so long and love having the combination of locals and tourists at the Ferry Landing.” She points out that it is convenient to ferry over from San Diego and for locals to take the Free Summer Shuttle down to the Ferry Landing.

Events and Parties

Colleen and Jay have a schedule of classes and tasting events including salad dressing classes, whiskey workshops, and winemaker events. Next up is Balcones Whiskey Tasting on June 24th. At the end of the month will be Wine and Appetizer Pairings with Chef Felicia Janecek on June 29th. In addition, they have live music on Tuesdays at 5:30 pm. Colleen promises even more classes to come this fall! You can buy tickets online for these unique events.

Along with their events, Coronado Tasting Room also hosts private parties such as corporate events, wine tasting, guided tastings, birthday parties, and bachelor / bachelorette parties.

While the tasting room is known for their wide alcohol selection, they also have an extensive selection of oils and vinegars. Colleen reminds, “people are able to come back and refill their oil and vinegar” making it easier to keep your favorites at home.

600 people came out to enjoy the Spring Wine tasting event Saturday – Kelowna News

600 people came out to enjoy the Spring Wine tasting event Saturday - Kelowna News

Sipping wine, feeling fine

The Okanagan Wine Festival is back in Kelowna this year and people were flooding into the Rotary Centre for the Arts Saturday night to get their hands on some of the best wines the Okanagan has to offer.

According to an organizer of the Spring Wine tasting event, Jennalyn Christopherson, it’s been a long road back to hosting full-capacity events for the Okanagan Wine Festival Society, as the pandemic has spoiled several plans.

“It feels incredible. It’s been a pretty big roller coaster these past couple years. We’ve been planning events and cancelling, it’s just been a roller coaster, so it’s great to see some smiling faces and some people ready to drink some wine,” said Christopherson.

To bring things back with a bang after such a long time away, the Okanagan Wine Festival Society completely sold out the Spring Wine tasting event, with 600 wine lovers showing up.

“Spring Wine Festival is 10 days with more than 70 events throughout the Okanagan Valley,” said General Manager Elan Morris.

“We produce three signature events. This one being our first … then we have From Cellars to Classic at the Laurel Packing House this Thursday and then Blush and Bubbles which is a celebration of all rosé and sparklings in the Valley.”

Known for being one of the best spots in the entire world when it comes to incredible-tasting wine, wineries from across the Okanagan have missed being front and centre for people to discover.

“We’re just excited to get back to events and do the important business of helping put our B.C wineries on the stages they so well deserve. It’s been a rough couple years for everyone, us included,” Morris said.

“We miss doing events and I know the wineries are really excited to get back and have 600 captive wine lovers to try their products. It’s been a long time coming.”

The Okanagan Wine Festival has several more events happening between now and May 15.

Set for a sip? Monthly Harrisburg tasting events planned for later this week

Set for a sip? Monthly Harrisburg tasting events planned for later this week

It’s time to “sip @” again in downtown Harrisburg.

The next tastings will take place this Thursday and Friday in connection with the monthly 3rd in the Burg events.

Created by Sara Bozich, they include “sip @ 17,” featuring Pennsylvania distilleries and wineries offering tastings at 17 S. Third St. in SoMa (south of Market), and “sip @ soma” (23 S. 3rd St.) that welcomes breweries.

Bozich said recently that while her lineup for Pa. breweries is filled through the rest of the year, there are still openings for wineries and distilleries. “I hope to book more July through December,” she said. Interested producers can contact her at sara.bozich@gmail.com.

Appalachian Craft Spirits will be pouring at this week’s tasting, with Mark & Val’s Wines scheduled for May and Cristiano Winery set for June.

Mark and Val Rhodes own and operate their year-and-a-half-old winery out of their home in York, where they appear every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the city’s Penn Market. Cristiano Winery, located in Mechanicsburg, opened in late 2019. It already has appeared to pour its wines at 3rd in the Burg and at one of the “sip @ 17″ events, and in addition to its June appearance will also be participating in the August Block Party.

“It’s a great way to get our product out there,” co-owner Terri Christiana said.

Mishka Vodka, based in Allentown, also has appeared this year at “sip @ 17.” Vendors use a PLCB Expo permit and can sell their products by the glass or bottle to-go. Often, they offer free samples in line with PLCB liquor code, Bozich said.

The SoMa Block Party Series will run from 7 to 10 p.m. each month starting in May on the Thursday before 3rd in the Burg.

On the beer side, here’s the list of breweries that are locked in for the remainder of 2022:

  • May – East End Brewing (Pittsburgh)

  • July – GearHouse Brewing Co (Chambersburg)
  • August – Lavery Brewing Co. (Erie)
  • September – Shy Bear Brewing (Lewistown)
  • October – Mount Gretna Craft Brewery (Palmyra)
  • November – Levity Brewing (Indiana)
  • December – Tröegs Independent Brewing (Hershey)

Those already pouring this year include The Englewood, Under The Bridge Cider (Lebanon), and Rough Edges Brewing (Waynesboro).

Both “sip @ 17″ and “sip @ soma” are open during 3rd in the Burg Fridays and preceding Thursdays, from 6 to. 9 p.m. The events also feature a local artist installation. 3rd in the Burg Fridays feature live music at sip @ soma in addition to a food truck on the block.

“On July 15, we’ll be TheBurg’s featured “3rd in the Burg” location,” Bozich said.

Here the tastings schedule for the rest of the year, tied into 3rd in the Burg.

  • April 14-15
  • May 19-20*
  • June 16-17
  • July 14-15

* Thursday date coincides with SoMa Block Party; hours are 7 to 10 p.m.

The SoMa Block Party Series will run from 7 to 10 p.m. each month starting in May on the Thursday before 3rd in the Burg. “We shut down South Third Street between Market and Chestnut and pack the streets with a live band, food trucks, beer/wine/spirits vendors, non-alcoholic beverage vendors, and more,” Bozich said.

The next two winery vendors to appear at ‘sip @ 17’ will be Mark & Val’s Wines in May and Cristiano Winery in June.

These events are free to attend and pay as you go. They do not require reservations.

Block party dates this year include May 19, June 30, July 28, Aug. 25, Sept. 29 and Oct. 20.

Any beer/wine/spirits vendors that want to join the activities should send an email to sara.bozich@gmail.com.
