There are multiple special events scheduled for the Seniors on the Bow seniors centre this week, one social and another of a more serious nature.

The monthly hot lunch is scheduled for April 22 beginning at 12:30. The centre’s talented volunteer chefs are preparing barbecued pork tenderloin, baked potato, salad and pineapple delight.

It’s a popular social occasion, complete with a cash bar. Members can enjoy the meal for $6, but non-members are welcome too for $8.

On April 29, there’s a full-day ‘emergency first aid’ course being held at the centre, funded through the FCSS/United Way grant program. Because this one has limited space it’s just for members, and Seniors on the Bow will need to confirm numbers by April 20.

There are recurring activities for each day of the week. Some of the more popular ones run twice weekly.

There are sessions for various table games including bridge, whist, crib, mah-jongg and euchre. There’s more active scheduled activities like carpet bowing, yoga, qigong, floor shuffleboard, pool, chair fitness, belly dancing and line dancing.

Other groups include the monthly book club (they’re reading The Personal Librarian in April) and the Needle Arts and Engaging Men groups.

The 2021 action-comedy Free Guy starring Ryan Reynolds is set to be the next ‘Monday Movie’ on the centre’s projector setup on April 25. It’ll start at 1:15, and there’s popcorn too: it’s free for members, and $3 for non-members.

A January-December membership to the centre is $30, with a ‘drop-in’ fee of $2 for members or $3 for non-members (which includes coffee and volunteer-baked goodies, plus a comfortable place to relax). The centre is located on the second floor of the SLS Family Sports Centre, accessible by the COLT transit system or the Rocky View Regional Handibus Society.

The full monthly calendar is available on the ‘Seniors on the Bow’ section of Cochrane.ca. Alternatively, reception can offer more information on programming, volunteering and membership during regular hours at 403-932-6002.
