FIFA introducing World Cup Fan Fest events for Qatar 2022 and could see London bid to stage its own

FIFA has launched 'Fan Fests' for the 2022 Qatar World Cup this winter, which will be outside the host country for the first time, to make the tournament more accessible for football fans

FIFA has launched ‘Fan Fests’ around the world for the 2022 Qatar World Cup to make the tournament more accessible for football fans.

The competition, lasting a little less than a month from October-November this winter, will take place in the remote Middle Eastern peninsula.

And global football’s governing body FIFA is introducing fan parks outside the host country for the first time, to allow supporters to drink in the World Cup experience outside Qatar – and London could bid to host its own.

If London does secure its own venue, it would be competing with the hugely popular Winter Wonderland in the city centre around the same time.

Officially licensed Fan Fests began at the Germany World Cup in 2006 and have continued since then.

There were 11 festival parks across each of the host cities in the competition’s last edition, in Russia in 2018, and the previous four World Cups have seen 40million visitors across five continents.

FIFA President Gianni Infantino said: ‘To support our mission to make football truly global, accessible and inclusive, we are thrilled to introduce a new vision for the entertainment experience surrounding future FIFA World Cup events.

‘The FIFA Fan Festival provides an incredible opportunity for fans to come together beyond the stadiums and the on-pitch action and experience football in new and unique ways.

‘We are truly excited about the future of the FIFA Fan Festival and the enhanced entertainment offerings that will bring fans and partners alike closer to both men’s and women’s FIFA World Cups, as well as global football culture.’

The fan parks at the Euro 2020 tournament, held across 11 countries in Europe, were largely successful, and the demand for tickets to the fan park in Hyde Park, London for the 2018 World Cup semi-final between England and Croatia was massive.

Qatar, a smaller country by area than Vanuatu, the Falkland Islands and Moldova , will only host one fan park, a ‘reimagined’ space in Al Bidda Park in Doha, with the capital city’s skyline in the background.

It will feature live broadcasts of every match on giant screen, concerts with top global music artists, a food court with ‘local cuisine and international delicacies’, matches with FIFA Legends, gaming stations and an official FIFA store.

The country is inaccessible compared to previous editions of the World Cup, with costs expected to be high.

If an England fan travels return from London, follow the Three Lions’ to the final (if they get there) and attend all eight matches along the way, sit in the cheapest seats and stay in the least expensive accommodation, the Football Supporters’ Association has calculated you will part with £5,000, before you pay for any food and drink.

However, this has to be caveated with the fact tickets sales have been strong, with nearly 2.5million sold so far.

Supreme Committee for Delivery & Legacy Secretary General H.E. Hassan Al Thawadi added: ‘It will be the centrepiece of our FIFA World Cup – the first to be held in the Middle East and the Arab world.

‘When fans arrive in November, they should expect a warm welcome, amazing football and a large number of entertainment options. We look forward to welcoming the world in just over 70 days.’

The Fan Fest will appear at the 2023 Women’s World Cup, held in Australia and New Zealand, for the first time.

In July, FIFA unveiled a ‘tent city’ offering accommodation for the World Cup, which will cost supporters £350 per night as part of a ‘fan village’ camping experience. The tournament, at the time of writing, will take place in 75 days.

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy ‘spearhead new PGA Tour stadium event series’

Tiger Woods (R) and Rory McIlroy (L) have teamed up to launch new PGA Tour 'stadium' events

Tiger Woods and Rory McIlroy have teamed up to spearhead a new PGA Tour ‘stadium’ competition, according to reports.

Woods and McIlroy have been two of the PGA Tour’s biggest supporters amid golf’s battle between the traditional tour and the new Saudi-backed LIV Golf Series and the duo have taken it upon themselves to contribute to the fightback.

The plan was shared with their fellow professionals during the crunch players-only meeting held in Wilmington, Delaware on August 16, which was believed to be organized in response to the ongoing LIV Golf threat.

The pair have a proposed a series of one-day events that will be staged in front of a live audience, be technology-forward and be held in a non-green grass, stadium environment, according to Golfweek

The events will be held in partnership with the PGA Tour and will complement, rather than conflict with, the Tour’s schedule.

They will reportedly launch in 2024 and will run from January through to March with a finale scheduled for later in the season.

Broadcast and gaming partners are reportedly being discussed with NBC Sports touted as a potential media partner.

It is not clear exactly what the events will entail but more details are expected to be revealed by commissioner Jay Monahan at the Tour Championship next week.

The project has been two years in the making for Woods and McIlroy and the duo presented the idea to other anti-LIV pros last Tuesday as the movement against the Saudi-backed breakaway has gained momentum in recent weeks.

LIV Golf has already managed to lure away some of the PGA Tour’s biggest names, such as Dustin Johnson, Brooks Koepka and Bryson DeChambeau, with mega-money deals.

However, Woods and McIlroy have remained loyal to the PGA with the former reportedly rejecting an $800million offer to join the rebel series.

The project, along with their united stance against the rebel series, is said to have brought them closer together.

Woods and McIlroy arranged an informal meeting of players to discuss countering LIV Golf during last month’s J.P. McManus Pro-Am at Adare Manor in Ireland before the follow-up meeting this week.

Woods took off from Stuart, Florida Tuesday lunchtime with Rickie Fowler and two hours later had landed on the east coast, just a half an hour drive from Wilmington, Delaware, where the BMW Championship was played this week.

The meeting lasted 3.5 hours and was described as ‘good’ by one player, as reported by ESPN.

The idea was pitched to their peers as a long-term opportunity for players to build equity in the enterprise, which will have private funding in addition to corporate partnerships and sponsors.

The proposal was said to be received well by the 22 stars who attended the meeting and the plan, along with other suggestions discussed, have been passed onto Monahan.

The PGA Tour chief is believed to already be on board with the new events with the details on the format, potential participants, the experiential elements and the planned location of the events thought to be announced by Monahan at East Lake.

Monahan is scheduled to hold a press conference on Tuesday ahead of the Tour Championship but a PGA Tour spokesperson declined to comment on what he may discuss, according to Golfweek

Following, Tuesday’s meeting McIlroy hailed Woods as the ‘alpha’ of the group, revealing the 46-year-old made himself heard with a hands-on approach to finding ‘actionable steps’ to secure the Tour’s future.

‘We’re all great players but we’re not Tiger Woods,’ the Northern Irishman said on Wednesday. ‘He is the hero that we’ve all looked up to and his voice carries further than anyone else’s in the game of golf. His role is navigating us to a place where we all think we should be.

‘I think it’s pretty apparent that whenever we all get in the room there’s an alpha in there and it’s not me. He cares a lot.’

McIlroy and his colleagues have kept tight-lipped about what was agreed in the meeting but it is understood the Tour’s top players agreed on trying to find ways to face each other more often – while avoiding LIV Golf rivals outside of majors.

Xander Schauffele, ranked sixth in the world, said there was ‘new’ and ‘fresh’ ideas raised at the meeting.

And Woods was at the center of the bid for unity among those who have not defected to LIV Golf.

Of Woods’ contribution, McIlroy added: ‘It shows how much he cares about the tour, it shows how much he cares about the players that are coming through and are going to be the next generation.

‘He’s carried the tour for a long, long time. Players that were his contemporaries, we’ve all benefited from that.’

Kat Graham looks terrific in TWO numbers at Cannes Film Festival events including tuxedo leotard

With the 75th annual Cannes Film Festival winding down to its last few days, Kat Graham made a point of being seen on Wednesday.

After soaking in some of the sights of the resort town on the French Riviera, the actress and singer made a point of getting on the VIP guest list for the world premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s Elvis biopic.

She wowed the sea of photographers gathered outside the venue with a plunging tuxedo jacket and skirt combination that she stripped down to a plunging tuxedo leotard for an intimate dinner party later that night.

Making the rounds: Kat Graham, 32, made the most of her Wednesday at the Cannes Film Festival by attending the world premiere of Baz Luhrmann’s new ‘Elvis’ biopic and an intimate dinner party later in the evening

Stepping in front of the rows of photographers on the red carpet, Graham’s fashionable number showed off her womanly curves with its form-fitting design.

The jacket’s plunging neckline allowed her to give more than a hint of her cleavage, while the skirt portion offered a leggy display by having a slit down the back side.

The Vampire Diaries alum rounded out the look with a pair of black heels, and her shoulder-length dark tresses pushed back off her face and behind the ears.

The Elvis film chronicles the life and career of the legendary singer, from his early days as a child to becoming one of the world’s first rock stars, as well as his complex relationship with his manager, Colonel Tom Parker.

The celebrity guest list for the premiere, which stars Austin Butler as Elvis Presley and Tom Hanks as Colonel Parker, also included the likes of Sharon Stone, Casey Affleck, MMA star Conor McGregor, Bollywood actress Deepika Padukone, Slave Play playwright Jeremy O. Harris, Passing director Rebecca Hall, French model Agathe Rousselle, House of Gucci actress Madalina Ghenea and Batwoman actress Wallis Day.

Once the credits began to roll out, the crowd all stood and proceeded to clap in rhythm and give a 10 minute standing ovation, according to Deadline.

In his review, the publication’s writer Pete Hammond called Elvis a ‘visual and vocal feast of a movie.’

Later Wednesday evening, Graham attended an intimate dinner at the Villa Bagatelle in Cannes, where it appears she was decked out in the very same ensemble, only without the skirt, which left a leotard version of the jacket that was paired with sheer stockings.

While relishing in the ambiance of the gathering, she chatted with French fashion model Cindy Bruna, who wore a revealing black leather outfit that also showcased her cleavage and legs.

Graham also struck a pose or two with Eli Mizrahi, who looked stylish in a bright fuchsia suit and white sneakers. Mizrahi, 36, has been dubbed the ultimate Millennial International Man of Mystery by Coveteur for being famous as an entrepreneur.

She began her career in the entertainment industry at age six, and went on to work in commercials and modeling before getting her big breaks in Hollywood.

Along with The Vampire Diaries (2009-2017), Graham’s resume also includes The Parent Trap (1998), 17 Again (2009), The Roommate (2011), Honey 2 (2011), Addicted (2014) and All Eyez on Me (2017).

The Queen will limit the number of Jubilee events after battle with Covid

The Queen speaking to staff at the Royal London Hospital by video link

The ‘very tired’ Queen will limit her Platinum Jubilee appearances to ‘just a few’ events after battling covid two months ago and ongoing mobility problems, a royal expert warned today.

Her Majesty revealed that fighting coronavirus in February has left her ‘exhausted’ in a video call with NHS staff and patients last week.

She told them: ‘It does leave one very tired and exhausted, doesn’t it? This horrible pandemic. It’s not a nice result.’

Royal biographer Angela Levin said the Queen’s presence at jubilee events will be limited due to her frailty.

She said: ‘It’s going to be very difficult and I think they will only show her in a few instances, maybe at the service at St Paul’s. That will be very important to her because she is a Christian.

‘I don’t think we’ll see her around and about. Maybe she’ll be well enough to sit and watch horses. It won’t be her, everywhere. But if she is there, she will appreciate the fact the public will be wanting to be there and supporting her.

‘I imagine that the aides are worried that if the public don’t see her, people may think that if she’s not there it’s not worth us going.

‘I’m sure everyone in the Palace hopes that people will turn up to show their respects and say thank you for an extraordinary reign both in length and in breadth’.

Buckingham Palace has unveiled the line-up of celebrations to mark the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee for the first time.

Street parties, a concert featuring some of the world’s biggest stars and a chance to see the Queen’s homes up close are all included in the programme to mark her 70 years on the throne.

Here is a list of all of the events taking place for the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee:

– May 12-15: Platinum Jubilee Celebration

More than 500 horses and 1,000 performers will take part in a 90-minute show taking the Windsor Castle audience through history right from Elizabeth I to present day.

Bank Holiday: June 2: Queen’s Birthday Parade (Trooping the Colour)

The colour will be trooped on Horse Guards Parade by the 1st Battalion, Irish Guards and over 1,200 officers and soldiers from the Household Division who will put on a display. Sandringham and Balmoral will also be open for residents and visitors to enjoy the celebrations across the Bank Holiday.

Platinum Jubilee Beacons

The UK will join the Channel Islands, Isle of Man and UK Overseas Territories to light a beacon to mark the Jubilee. The Principal Beacon will also be lit in a ceremony at Buckingham Palace.

June 3: Service of Thanksgiving

The Service of Thanksgiving for the Queen’s reign will be held at St Paul’s Cathedral.

June 4: Platinum Party at the Palace

Some of the world’s greatest entertainers are billed to perform at the concert at Buckingham Palace to celebrate the most significant moments from the Queen’s reign.

June 5: Big Jubilee Lunch

Street parties are being planned across the UK and neighbours are expected to join together for food and fun to celebrate the Platinum Jubilee. It will mark the end of the Bank Holiday.

Platinum Jubilee Pageant

Performers will come together in London to tell the story of the Queen’s reign through a pageant that will include a “River of Hope” section made up of 200 silk flags that will make its way through The Mall, appearing like a moving river.

July: The Royal Collection Trust

Three displays marking the Queen’s accession to the throne, the Coronation and Jubilees will be put on at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle and the Palace of Holyroodhouse.

Ms Levin was asked by Sky News if Harry and Meghan will come to the UK for the jubilee events.

She said: ‘I’m sure they won’t. I mean their behaviour just keeps going down and downhill. The fact that it is suspected in another royal book that Harry is really going to go for Charles and Camilla, I mean how many times does he have to have a go at his family. We’re all bored with that. Move on and try to enjoy your life, not go on and on endlessly about how badly you were treated. It’s just tragically sad and nothing like the Harry that I knew.

She added: ‘It’s quite painful to watch him. You just want to shake him and say: “Don’t you see what you’re doing”.’ We’ve all had enough of it. We’re bored stiff of it.

‘Show us a very happy man, because you’ve got what you wanted – and loads of money.

Which other Royals have caught Covid?

As Covid brought Britain to a standstill after the first lockdown in March 2020, even the Royal family was not left unscathed.

Prince Charles has tested positive for the virus twice. He first became ill in March 2020 during the first lockdown and lost both his sense of taste and smell.

He became ill again in February and was forced to self-isolate for a second time.

His wife Camilla, Duchess of Cornwall, tested positive for Covid for the first time in February and was also forced into isolation. Both have made a full recovery.

Prince William, 39, tested positive for Covid in April 2020 but kept his illness a secret to avoid causing worry, until it was reported seven months later by The Sun newspaper. The prince was reportedly ‘hit hard’ by Covid and struggled to catch his breath while self-isolating in Norfolk.

Other royals known to have been laid up with the disease include Princess Anne’s husband Admiral Sir Timothy Laurence in December last year and Princess Michael of Kent in November 2020.

‘She [Her Majesty] would love to see him. She adores Harry. It doesn’t seem to bother him. I mean he should have been there for the memorial service. If he can go for the Invictus Games in Europe – it’s just a hop and a skip from there. You can rest assured that in Westminster Abbey there would have been every possible security in place with all the royals from home and abroad there as well as the Prime Minister and various celebrities. It’s a psychological decision that he has cut himself away’.

The Queen stoically attended the memorial service for her beloved  husband Prince Philip’s memorial service. But she asked Prince Andrew to support her as she walked.

When Buckingham Palace announced that the Queen had tested positive at Windsor, it was said that she had ‘mild cold-like symptoms’.  While she had her weekly audience with the Prime Minister, she did not appear on scheduled video calls.

Sources told the Daily Mail the cancellations to recent events were made because she sounded ‘croaky’ and ‘full of cold’ and not because her condition had worsened. She also pulled out of the annual Commonwealth Day service, albeit more due to mobility problems.

However it seems that like many who have contracted Covid, the Queen – who is triple-jabbed and likely to have had her second booster injection by now – is suffering from after-effects including extreme exhaustion.

This will no doubt add to the mounting health problems of the last six months, which saw her needing hospital care last autumn and unable to conduct an engagement outside palace walls for six months.

The Queen notably missed the Commonwealth Day Service on Monday, March 14, which was attended in her absence by the Prince of Wales, the Duchess of Cornwall and the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The monarch had previously been given rest orders by doctors even before catching Covid, and had been forced to cancel a two day trip to Northern Ireland on October 20 at the last minute.

Other affected events before Christmas included the COP26 climate summit in Glasgow on November 1 for which the Queen recorded a video message, the Festival of Remembrance at the Royal Albert Hall on November 10 and the National Service of Remembrance on November 14.

She was finally seen in public at the Duke of Edinburgh’s service of thanksgiving at the end of last month.

While she has also pulled out of this week’s Maundy Service in Windsor for the first time ever due to her mobility and handed responsibility to the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall, she has stoically continued video calls and audiences.

Four key events are said to be considered as priorities for the Queen to attend in-person, The Express reports, including the state opening of Parliament in May, the Derby at Epsom, the Trooping of the Colour in June and a special service at St Paul’s Cathedral that same month to mark her Platinum Jubilee.

This week the Queen – who will celebrate her 96th birthday at the end of next week – marked the opening of the Queen Elizabeth Unit at The Royal London Hospital, of which she is patron, talking to staff and one former patient.

Wearing a floral dress with a pearl necklace, she said the staff’s work was ‘splendid’.

Nurse Charlie Mort said: ‘The amount of bravery that both the patients and my colleagues showed throughout the entire pandemic was amazing and the amount of kindness we were shown was inspiring. I think we will all be bonded together because of it, forever.’

‘It’s amazing, isn’t it, what can be done when needs be,’ the Queen said.

Imam Faruq Siddiqi, hospital chaplain, said families ‘felt a sense of hope’ when they knew he was visiting their loved ones. ‘

Although I didn’t hold any miracles, I hope I was able to bring some sort of comfort to them through my presence and prayers,’ he said.

The Queen replied: ‘It obviously was a very frightening experience to have Covid very badly, wasn’t it?’

Mr Siddiqi said: ‘I think what made it worse was being by themselves.’ ‘Exactly. So they were alone, too,’ the Queen remarked.

Mireia Lopez Rey Ferrer, senior sister, said that the intensive care unit had been ‘unrecognisable’ with so many patients.

‘As nurses we made sure they were not alone,’ she said.

‘We held their hands, we wiped their tears, and we provided comfort. It felt at times that we were running a marathon with no finish line.’

‘It must have been a terrible time for all of you,’ the Queen said. ‘Not seeing your own families and also working so very hard… That [was] the unusual part of it wasn’t it, not being able to meet your relatives and being isolated.’

Asef Hussain, a former patient, explained how he and his family had contracted Covid in December 2020. His father and brother were also treated at the unit for Covid before they passed away.

Mr Hussain, joined by his wife, Shamina, said his brother was admitted first and died that day. He was taken to hospital himself after struggling to breathe and was put to sleep for seven weeks.

‘Once I woke up I saw the brilliant work the nurses, the doctors – the whole team here were doing. They supported me and my family in a fantastic way.

‘Unfortunately while I was asleep my father passed away from Covid as well,’ he said.

‘Are you better now?’ the Queen asked. ‘I’m getting there, I’m recovering, I’m much better,’ Mr Hussain said.

Mr Hussain’s wife explained how she prayed for his recovery on Zoom calls with family around the world. ‘Praying for him, oh wonderful,’ the Queen said.

She added: ‘I’m glad that you’re getting better. It does leave one very tired and exhausted doesn’t it, this horrible pandemic? It is not a nice result.’

The monarch also spoke to the team behind the building of the new unit and burst out laughing when Jeff Barley, project director, told her he plundered his ‘black book’ to find people to help him.

The Queen replied: ‘That is marvellous isn’t it. It is very interesting isn’t it, when there’s some very vital thing, how everybody works together and pulls together. Marvellous, isn’t it.’

Mr Barley hailed the ‘little bit of Dunkirk spirit’ involved, prompting the Queen, smiling, to say: ‘Thank goodness it still exists’, amid laughter. The plaque was then unveiled and held up to show the monarch.

The Royal London Hospital has served the residents of East London for the past 280 years. It was granted its royal title by the Queen during a visit in 1990 to celebrate the 250th anniversary of its opening on the Whitechapel site.

NYC events planner Lauren Pazienza ‘seen mocking deaf people’ in video

Lauren Pazienza, who is charged with fatally shoving an elderly woman in a ‘random’ attack in New York City, has been described by former college friends as ‘pure trouble’ and the ‘poster child for white privilege’

Former college classmates of Lauren Pazienza have described her as, ‘pure trouble,’ and ‘a danger,’ who was prone to violence and they have shared exclusive video with DailyMail.com in which the New York events coordinator is seen ‘mocking’ deaf people.

Both sources, who asked to remain anonymous, knew Pazienza when the 26-year-old was a student at the Fashion Institute of Technology in New York.

Pazienza was charged Tuesday with killing grandmother and renowned voice-coach Barbara Gustern in an apparently unprovoked and motiveless attack on a Manhattan street.

The criminal complaint obtained by DailyMail.com states that the 26-year-old crossed the street, called the 87-year-old, whom she did not know, a ‘b***h’ and forcibly shoved her off the pavement.

Gustern fell to the ground and sustained head wounds from which she died six days later on March 16.

It was a shocking turn of events, but, her former college classmates told DailyMail.com, the news that Pazienza had allegedly been involved in such an horrific incident came as ‘no surprise’ to those who knew her back then.

One said: ‘What angered me most was seeing that her lawyer said she’s overcharged and is a good and moral person. She’s not.

‘I knew her very well at school and she was pure trouble.’

Pazienza’s attorney, Arthur Aidala, has said that even if his client did push Gustern pushing a person from a sidewalk is not like ‘pushing them from a cliff,’ and that the charges she faces – which include manslaughter – are excessive.

But according to the former friend: ‘She’s the poster child for white privilege. She never faced any consequences in her life. She was enabled by her parents who got her out of everything, but she called them stupid and basic.’

According to the criminal complaint Pazienza, ‘made every effort to avoid detection.’

When police were tipped off that she was hiding out in her parents’ Long Island home, ‘Her father [Daniel] answered the door, but refused to allow detectives to enter the premises, and claimed that his daughter was not at home.

‘It was only at that point, despite all of the media attention that this incident has received, despite the fact that the defendant knew what she had done when she fled the city, despite the pleas from the victim’s loved ones begging for the perpetrator to come forward, that the defendant’s counsel contacted the police and arranged for her to surrender.’

None of this is surprising to her former friend who said simply, ‘she has no empathy,’ and never showed any remorse for her bad acts during her time as a student at FIT.

In fact, Pazienza was, the former friend said, prone to mocking people and spoke in a derogatory manner, they said ‘about fat people and deaf people…anyone.’

In footage shared with DailyMail.com Pazienza can be seen contorting and making a grotesque face, screeching and speaking in a distorted voice that, the friend said, was her ‘mocking deaf people.’

In another video she is filmed in her dorm room in bra and jacket behaving in a bizarre  and, the source said, attention-grabbing manner.

They continued: ‘She’s not a good person. She has a fiancé, and she went to high school, and she went to college but none of these parts of her life were normal.’

Unpredictable and confrontational, the first source described Pazienza as, ‘abusive to her boyfriend [now fiancé Naveen Pereira] on multiple occasions.’

They added: ‘She cheated on him multiple occasions. He was reserved and very kind and seemed annoyed with her when I met him and fearful of her.

‘She was a very manipulative person.’

The friend watched with increasing unease, they said, as Pazienza’s ‘reckless’ behavior escalated.

‘I witnessed her behave recklessly. She would throw herself in front of cars in the street. She was a complete wildcard,’ she source said.

‘I believe she was in control of her behavior. I saw her get so drunk she pissed herself, but I don’t think any of it was drug related.

‘She was cold and calculated,’ they added.

As time passed they grew to fear Pazienza who, the classmate said, took to ‘spying’ on them.

‘I would see feet beneath my door in my dorm and open it to see her running away down the hallway. It freaked me out,’ the friend said.

Asked to sum up their former friend, the classmate said: ‘She was a predator…and I was very relieved when she was out of my life.’

According to the source, they detached from Pazienza because of growing alarm at her behavior.

And while they have not been surprised by recent events, they said: ‘I’ve been very disturbed and very creeped out to think that person had any space in my life.’

The second source said: ‘There’s no way that she meant to kill a person. I don’t think that for a minute.

‘But I can totally see that if she was having a bad day and somebody was in front of her, walking too slow, she would push them. That’s the kind of edge she has.

‘She’s a danger.’

Pazienza turned herself in on Tuesday when she was booked for manslaughter in the first degree and assault in the second degree. She is currently jailed on Rikers Island as her parents pull together funds to meet her $500,000 cash bond obligation.

She is due to appear in court Friday.

Pazienza grew up in affluent parts of Long Island as the daughter of a septic service mogul, and enjoyed living the high life at swanky parties before landing behind bars.

Prosecutors say she approached Gustern at random, called her a ‘b***h’, pushed her from behind, causing the unsuspecting woman to gall and hit her head, and then fled.

She is then said to have watched as an ambulance crew took the frail older woman away with blood seeping from her head.

Though Pazienza she appears to have lived a life of privilege, and later glamour in New York City’s high society, neighbors told the New York Post that she was sharp-tempered and confrontational, and an elementary classmate has claimed she bullied fellow students.

A former classmate of Pazienza told Fox News that when he moved in down the street from her in second grade, she began bullying him.

The classmate claimed that she always had a ‘crazy look in her eyes’ and would kick him and call him and other kids names.

Pazienza grew up in historic Setauket, Long Island, where she attended Ward Melville High School with her future fiancé, Microsoft customer support specialist Naveen Pereira.

Her father Daniel owns a prosperous third-generation cesspool draining company, and claims on the company website that it was voted No. 1 in both price and service in Suffolk County for several years running.

In addition to pumping services, the company provides cesspool installations, grease trap installations, septic tank installations, storm drains and catch basin installations.

‘At Dan Pazienza Cesspool Service we pride ourselves on being Suffolk County’s most advanced cesspool service. We have been serving Suffolk County for over 3 generations,’ the website boasts.

Lauren Pazienza’s parent Daniel and Caroline leave Manhattan Criminal court after their daughter was arraigned for allegedly pushing Barbara Gustern and killing her in an unprovoked attack

Paziensa’s parents Daniel and Caroline, who have been married for 28 years, enjoyed a life of prosperity, taking vacations to Aruba, France, and the Florida Keys over the years, photos on Facebook show.

The family later moved to Port Jefferson, where Paziena allegedly fled to hide in her parents’ home after Gustern’s death.

After graduating high school in 2013, Paziena earned a bachelors degree from the Fashion Institute of Technology.

Photos show her enjoying glamorous parties in Manhattan in recent years, including the 40th-anniversary party for New York society magazine Avenue in 2015.

Pazienza had recently been living in an Astoria condo with her fiancé, who purchased the unit in 2019 with his father.

Neighbors told the Post that they were not entirely surprised to learn of the charges against Pazienza, saying that she was known to have a short fuse and was frequently confrontational.

‘There’s always some type of issue, some type of complaint. You’ll always know it’s her. It’s ridiculous,’ one said.

One neighbor said Pazienza argued with the building management about issues like parking tickets, but that it never got physical.

‘It was verbal. Sometimes she would stand up for herself, definitely,’ said the woman. ‘She will not put up with nonsense … she will say, ‘What is your problem?’ ‘What do you want from me?’

‘There was always an issue with her and someone in the building,’ one neighbor told the outlet. ‘It’s like always something with that lady. I feel for her fiancé because he’s a nice guy and he didn’t sign up for this.’

Prosecutors claim that after the attack on Gustern, Pazienza then spent the next two weeks trying to cover her tracks.

She quit her job in Chelsea, deleted her social media pages and even stashed her cell phone at her aunt’s house in Long Island after fleeing her Astoria apartment, where she lives with her Microsoft-employee fiancé.

Eventually, she handed herself in after the NYPD released clear-as-day photos of her getting on the subway some 20 minutes after the attack.

Pazienza worked as an events coordinator for the furniture brand Roche Bobois, but quit her role in December. It’s unclear what motive she could have had for pushing the woman.

Russia and Belarus banned from team events in tennis by the ITF

Tennis star Daniil Medvedev wants to promote peace after Russia declared war on Ukraine

Russia and Belarus have been expelled immediately from team events in tennis but individual players, like the men’s world No 1 Daniil Medvedev, will be allowed to play on in tournaments around the world.

The International Tennis Federation board met Tuesday to decide the sport’s response to the brutal Russian invasion of Ukraine.

The meeting followed the announcement by the IOC’s executive board, which recommended sports federations ban Russian and Belarusian athletes and officials from competing in international events.

The ITF has excluded both countries from international team events, which include the Davis Cup, the Billie Jean King Cup and the ATP Cup, but it has refused to yield to international pressure to ban individual players from competition. They will carry on but play under a neutral flag.

The decision came as Kyiv braced itself for a dramatic escalation in bloodshed as a 40-mile column of Russian tanks and artillery, snaked towards the Ukrainian capital on Tuesday – seemingly with the aim of surrounding and besieging it,

The tennis governing body had already cancelled events due to take place in Russia indefinitely on safety grounds, but met today to consider further steps.

The Ukrainian Tennis Federation had called on the sport’s governing body to expel Russia and Belarus from the organisation and ban Russia from individual and team tournaments.

However, despite the growing horrors of the war, which has already seen 500,000, mostly women and children, flee the stricken country, and has prompted other sports to impose wide-ranging bans, Russians and Belarusians will continue to play in individual tennis tournaments but cannot do so under the name or flag of those nations.

‘At this time, players from Russia and Belarus will continue to be allowed to compete in international tennis events on Tour and at the Grand Slams. However, they will not compete under the name or flag of Russia or Belarus until further notice,’ the statement said.

Medvedev, who became the ATP’s highest ranked player on Monday, can continue to compete, along with his compatriot and world No 6, Andrey Rublev, in the men’s game.

In total there are three Russians and one Belarussian in the world top 100.

Medvedev, 26, and Rublev, 24, have both spoken out about Russia’s invasion of Ukraine.

Russian Andrey Rublev has protested against the war in Ukraine during a tournament in Dubai

ITF STATEMENT

The International Tennis Federation (ITF) condemns Russia’s invasion of Ukraine and its facilitation by Belarus. In addition to the cancellation of all ITF events in those countries, the ITF Board has today announced the immediate suspension of the Russian Tennis Federation (RTF) and Belarus Tennis Federation (BTF) from ITF membership and from participation in ITF international team competition until further notice.

The ITF remains in close contact with the Ukraine Tennis Federation and stands in solidarity with the people of Ukraine

Medvedev secured his place at the top of the men’s rankings on the day of the Russian invasion. He took the court in Acapulco, Mexico, hours after Novak Djokovic’s quarter-final loss in Dubai, which meant the Russian would replace him in top spot. Afterwards Medvedev said it was not easy watching the news.

‘By being a tennis player, I want to promote peace all over the world,’ the 26-year-old said after reaching the semi-finals at the ATP 500 tournament by defeating Japan’s Yoshihito Nishioka.

‘We play in so many different countries. I’ve been in so many different countries as a junior and as a pro. It’s just not easy to hear all this news. I’m all for peace.’

Meanwhile, Rublev wrote ‘No war please’ on a camera lens as he strode to last week’s title in Dubai.

In the women’s game, there are even more competitors, with seven Russians and three Belarusians in the top 100. Among them are former number one, Belarusian Aryna Sabalenka, now ranked three.

Despite the players from Russia and Belarus being allowed to compete, there is the possibility other athletes will refuse to meet them on court.

On Monday, the world number 15, Ukrainian tennis player Elina Svitolina, said she would not play her round of 32 match against Russia’s Anastasia Potapova, who is ranked 115, in the Monterrey Open, unless tennis’ governing bodies followed the recommendations made by the International Olympic Committee.

At that point the IOC had only insisted that Russia should compete under a neutral flag. Svitolina has now agreed to play the match with her opponent competing under a neutral flag.

In a separate but similar statement on Monday, Ukrainian women’s tennis players including Marta Kostyuk and Lesia Tsurenko railed at what they described as the ‘lack of response’ from tennis to the crisis in Ukraine, urging the ITF to ‘be human’.

‘We Ukrainian tennis players would like to express our great surprise and dissatisfaction with the lack of any response with the situation with our motherland,’ the statement said.

‘It is especially strange that in prior cases of social injustice and sexual harassment the response of WTA was prompt, appropriate and bold.

‘We demand that WTA immediately condemn Russian government, pull all tournaments out of Russia and approach ITF to do the same. Stop the war. Stop Russian aggression. Bring peace to our homes. Be human.’

And the Russian number one Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has spoken out against the invasion of Ukraine and insisted she is not afraid to state her position.

Pavlyuchenkova made one of the strongest statements from any Russian sports star as she appeared to directly criticise the actions of Vladimir Putin, rather than just a plea to end the war.

Anastasia Pavlyuchenkova has spoken out against the Russian invasion of Ukraine

Pavlyuchenkova said ‘personal ambitions or political motives cannot justify violence’.

‘I’ve been playing tennis since I was a kid. I have represented Russia all my life,’ she said on social media.

‘This is my home and my country. But now I am in complete fear, as are my friends and family.’

‘But I am not afraid to clearly state my position. I am against war and violence.’

Sport has taken a hardline on Russian and Belarusian participation, although the world governing swimming body, FINA, has allowed individual swimmers to compete as neutrals, while banning national teams.

However, there may be unfavourable comparisons with other sports.

In football, FIFA has thrown Russia out of the World Cup qualification, UEFA has stripped St Petersburg of the Champions League final and barred Spartak Moscow from the Europa League competition.

Meanwhile, Putin is stepping up the attack on Ukraine with appalling consequences expected.

The city of Mariupol, in Ukraine’s south, said early Tuesday that bombardment had already started – with the mayor saying it is under ‘constant shelling’ by Russian forces using artillery, Grad rockets, and fighter jets targeting civilians’ areas such as schools and homes which had left many dead, including women and children.

Power to the city, which is in danger of being surrounded by Russian forces, has been cut – region head Pavlo Kyrylenko said Tuesday – but it remains under Ukrainian control.

Kherson, another key city located in southern Ukraine with a bridge over the Dnieper River, also came under bombardment by Russian forces today as missiles landed near civilian buildings on the outskirts and troops were pictured moving through the streets.

Kharkiv, in the east, continued to be under bombardment today with a large rocket landing in front of the civilian public administration building, leaving the interior heavily damaged. It came just a day after Kharkiv was hit by cluster bombs that landed near a shopping centre, killing at least 11 people and leaving dozens more wounded.

Ukraine’s ambassador to the UN later said that a thermobaric ‘vacuum bomb’ was also used on the country, though did not saying exactly when or where.

President Volodymyr Zelensky this morning branded the Kharkiv bombing a ‘terrorist’ attack and branded Russia a ‘terrorist state’ while repeating calls for a war crimes investigation. The chief prosecutor of the International Criminal Court at The Hauge has said that a probe will be established ‘as soon as possible’.
