Kiwanis Club of Penticton’s Easter Hop Along sees happy kids, has more events coming soon – Penticton News

Kiwanis Club of Penticton's Easter Hop Along sees happy kids, has more events coming soon - Penticton News

Successful event for the kids

Three hundred and four kids came through the sold-out Penticton Easter Hop-Along all with ‘happy smiles’ through the Safety Village collecting treats last Saturday.

The Kiwanis Club of Penticton partnered with the Penticton Safety Village to host this outdoor event, which also collected food donations for Fill the Food Gap Penticton. Plenty of local businesses were also in attendance.

“I think the event went very well, very smoothly. Going on the Halloween event, it was organic. It just went really well,” Kiwanis member Stormie Holland said. “All the sponsors were right behind everything.”

The ongoing success of the event only makes the Kiwanis team excited for their future plans.

“We have loose plans right now for something during the summer,” Greg Holland, Kiwanis club president said, adding that they’re hoping to put an event together in the park.

“I think we will have something during the summer. And certainly next Halloween will be our next major kids event.”

Total Restoration and Castanet’s colouring contest is still going on, with a chance to win one of three gift baskets. Participants have until April 29 to enter. Full instruction on the colouring page online here.

Petrolia Lions Club family Easter drive-thru event draws a crowd

Vehicles were lined up before noon April 15 at the entrance to Petrolia’s Greenwood Park for the start of this year’s Easter “Eggstravaganza.”

It was the 34th running of the event organized by the Petrolia and District Lions Club to bring some Easter joy to local families.

Normally, it’s an in-person family event at the service club’s hall and pavilion in the park next to the arena in Petrolia, but the pandemic has turned it into a drive-thru for the past two years.

More than 200 children went home last year with candy and treats, “and this year we’re set for 300,” said event chairperson Cheryl Schleihauf.

Vehicles made their way by tables set up through the arena parking lot, where 20 members of the service club and eight members of its LEO youth group dressed up as Easter characters handed out treats.

Families were greeted at the final stop by Jeff Classen dressed as the Easter Bunny.

Schleihauf said the club decided to stick with a drive-thru this year but aims to return to an in-person event in 2023.

“It’s something to give back to the community,” she said, adding the event fits with the service club’s focus on programs serving young people.

The drive-thru was scheduled to run for two hours and those attending were invited to bring donations for local food banks.

The Easter event was initially a project of the former Lioness Club and continued when that group combined with the Lions Club about two decades ago, Schleihauf said.

Members of the LEO club also handed out information about the Lions and the youth group.

“We’re always looking for new members,” Schleihauf said.

The club currently has 57 members, with about 16 members in its LEO youth group.

Schleihauf said the club moved to online meetings when the pandemic began but has since resumed meeting in person, although members are still able to attend remotely if they wish.

A $60,000 grant from the Trillium Foundation allowed the club to upgrade its hall and install audio-visual equipment in 2020.

Schleihauf said the service club already has a busy schedule set this year for its hall and food trailer that can be booked for community events.

“We’re busy every weekend May, June, July and August,” she said.

Eggs, bunny, families everywhere at Easter events

NEW ULM– It was a busy Easter weekend with families hopping from one holiday event to the next.

Multiple Easter egg hunts were held throughout New Ulm on Saturday, and the Easter Bunny was at every one to greet the children.

The holiday festivities began at 10 a.m. in German Park with the Park and Recreations Easter Egg Hop. Families walked through German Park, collecting Easter eggs and candy and meeting some of their favorite literary characters; including Cat in the Hat, Winnie the Pooh and Tigger. The Easter Bunny was available for photos. Well over a hundred people attended the Hop.

Each kid attending the left with a goodie bag holding a snack, activities book, gnome craft and sidewalk chalk.

Park and Recreation staff were delighted to hold the event outside. In the event of rain or snow, the Easter Egg Hop is relocated indoors at the Civic Center.

Decked out in her rabbit ears, 1-year-old Reygan Roppe was one of many people who attended Saturday’s German Park Easter Egg Hop.

Recreation Program Supervisor Liz Malloy said she was determined to keep the event outside in the park. A few snowflakes fell in the early morning, but no storm materialized, and the temperature rose throughout the day, reaching into the low 40s by afternoon.

At the Best Western, the annual Spring Fling Craft & Vendor Show started in the early morning and ran through the afternoon. The New Ulm Craft and Vendor Events group holds several craft shows throughout the year, but the Spring Fling is an annual tradition, which also features an appearance from the Easter Bunny. Every kid in attendance was given their own set of rabbit ears.

Organizer James Haviland said of all the craft shows held by the group, the Easter show is among his favorite.

“It is fun seeing the kids interact with Easter Bunny,” he said.

Turnout for the craft show started strong, with a lot of customers in the morning.

A young man scrambles to collect eggs at the Schell’s Brewery Easter Egg Hunt on Saturday. A total of 250 eggs were scattered around the garden space.

The next craft show event is 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, May 14, in the 2nd N. and Broadway streets parking lot.

At 1 p.m. Schell’s Brewery kicked off an Easter Egg Hunt. It was the first Easter Egg Hunt ever held on the Brewery grounds. Based on the turnout, it could turn out to be an annual tradition.

A total of 250 Easter eggs were scattered around Schell’s gardens. Those attending the event could redeem up to three eggs for various prizes. The prizes included candy, free tours of the brewery, Schell’s shirts, discounts in the gift stores and drink tokens. Since it was a family event, the kids received free root beer when turning in drink tokens.

There were also 10 golden eggs scattered around Schell’s grounds. These eggs were a little harder to find. Anyone redeeming the golden egg received two free tours of the brewery and two free drink tokens.

All 250 eggs were recovered within the first 15 minutes of the hunt, but only six golden eggs were found in the first half-hour.

Franz Marti of Schell’s was excited with attendance. He said Saturday had some of the best weather all week. By afternoon the brewery garden area had dried up enough for a great Easter hunt.

Schell’s Visitor Center manager Curt Van Asten came up with the idea for an Easter Egg Hunt. He said they expected a good turnout but were surprised how many families attended the hunt.

Van Asten said next year they would at the very least double the number of eggs based on turnout.

St. Clair College Easter brunch event returns after two-year hiatus

St. Clair College Easter brunch event returns after two-year hiatus

The annual St. Clair College Centre for the Arts Easter Brunch returned with in-person dining on Sunday after a two-year absence due to the COVID-19 global pandemic.

Five hundred tickets sold out in about two weeks, according to organizers who say they’re already looking ahead to Mother’s Day.

“We’re extremely excited after a two-year hiatus to have Easter brunch back here at the Center for the Arts,” says Joe D’Angela, director of operations.

“It’s good to see that things are returning back to normal and having the activity back in our ballrooms.”

D’Angela suggests anyone interested in booking reservations for May to act fast, noting it will be a similar setup and that tickets are already 50 per cent sold.

“It’s reservation only by calling the Chrysler Theatre Box Office. Reservation times are 11, 11:30 and 12 o’clock,” D’Angela explains all reservations are for private tables. “We’re still adhering to some restrictions and it makes people a lot more comfortable that they’re sitting on their own private table they’re not sitting with other guests.”

D’Angela adds, “in the past that we would put 800 people in the ballroom, but we’ve decided this year to keep it around 500. We just want people to be really comfortable coming in dining with us know.”

The hunt is on: Easter events abound throughout weekend for families to enjoy

WILLMAR

— Saturday’s high of 40 degrees didn’t deter the eagerness of area youngsters, who dressed up in vibrant Easter colors for a morning of Easter egg hunting activities scattered around Kandiyohi County.

Early in the day, children and their families crammed into an activities room over at the Willmar Public Library for arts and crafts, pictures with the Easter bunny and the grand finale of an egg hunt downstairs among the countless rows of books.

Due to the popularity of the event the previous time it was held in 2019, the event was limited to participants and had two sessions throughout the morning. Each child was able to walk away with five eggs.

Later in the morning, bundled-up kiddos gathered at the Lake Lillian City Park for a hunt and additional prizes.

In addition, the New London Ambassador Annual Pancake Feed & Easter Egg Hunt was an ongoing event throughout the morning hours, where kids and families could partake in an indoor egg hunt, enjoy a proper pancake breakfast, silent auction, bake sale and bike giveaway.

‘SNL’: Bowen Yang’s Easter Bunny and Famous People Parodies Do Current Events Jokes in Cold Open (Video)

'SNL': Bowen Yang's Easter Bunny and Famous People Parodies Do Current Events Jokes in Cold Open (Video)

It’s Easter weekend and so it is that “SNL” kicked off its latest episode with an Easter-themed cold open. Well, ostensibly, as the Easter theme really just provided a different way for “SNL” to run through a grab bag of celebrity impressions and mildly amusing jokes about recent events without any real point other than “hey, remember this thing that happened?”

Also yes, James Austin Johnson’s Trump showed up because, we don’t know, apparently there is a law that says Trump is the only president “SNL” is allowed to notice anymore? But, Bowen Yang played the Easter Bunny, and he’s always great, and Cecily Strong’s impression of Marjorie Taylor Greene at least had some teeth, which was fun.

So, Yang’s Easter Bunny started it off with some jokes about how maybe he’s actually at Coachella on drugs, inroduces himself as the “freakiest man-sized bunny with no-backstory” who doesn’t use elf slave labor like Santa. Then he says that Easter is “about renewal and rebirth,” which is why he invited “people form all walks of life” to detail their hopes for Easter.

Of course, they turned out to not be from “all walks of life,” which might have been interesting, just from recent headlines. First up was Kate McKinnon as Anthony Fauci for some jokes about COVID-19.

Next was Cecily Strong as Greene, who had two pretty good jokes at the expense of the extremist right wing politician.

The first was, “I’ve been saying to my Muslim and Jewish colleagues, ‘happy Easter.”

The second came at the end of her appearance when she said “happy Easter and God bless Russia, I mean America.”

Next, Chris Redd came out as New York Mayor Eric Adams, playing him as a vaguely sexual harass-y weirdo. But, the joke had teeth when Redd mocked the way the NYPD and Mayor Adams have gloated about catching the Brooklyn subway shooter.

“We got him. We got the shooter. Sure it took 30 hours, and the suspect turned himself in, but we got him. Case closed,” Redd joked.

This was followed by Mikey Day as Elon Musk, who joked that he wanted to buy Easter for $43 billion peeps. Next was Chloe Fineman as Britney Spears, followed by Kyle Mooney as “Jesus Christ… just kidding I’m Jared Leto.” And finally, Johnson showed up to do his increasingly exhausting Trump impression.

That’s about it. And you can watch parts of it Below.

But first, real talk: Johnson’s impression is quite amazing, we obviously think he has some talent. But it’s 2022. Literally, it’s 20 – [f-word]ing 22. It’s been 13 months since Joe Biden, a guy with many things to make fun of or even just notice exists and is running the country, took office. He’s even been in the news for something other than “calling in to Fox News and saying bigoted stuff and lies.” And Johnson, who by the way is very talented, could even do the impression.

Yet for some reason, “SNL” still does several-minutes-long *Trump* bits like it’s 2017 and we’re all still processing the fact that the electoral college exists. Who can say why but if we’re being honest, it would be nice to have like, even a month off. Like maybe limit Trump parodies to when he actually does something newly weird, or alarming, or tries to overthrow the election again, or when he inevitably runs in 2024.

Anyway:

Local churches hold gas card, food giveaway events

Local churches hold gas card, food giveaway events

ATLANTA, Ga. (CBS46) – Cars lined up for miles on Saturday for the King’s Table Food Distribution and Gas Card Giveaway event just in time for Easter.

This massive event was held at New Birth Missionary Baptist Church in Stonecrest. Attendees got a bag of food and a $50 gas card. Several community partners came together to help make this a successful event.

Fridges are also full for some families in Powder Springs after Linked Up Church gave away $20,000 in groceries on a first-come, first-served basis. Families also enjoyed carnival rides and community engagement.

The congregation says it’s part of an Easter celebration, and each person got a $50 grocery gift card.

“Times are challenging right now for people, of course, inflation is at an all-time high. This is resurrection weekend, and we couldn’t think of a better way to show people God’s love by helping them at a time when inflation is extremely high,” said Joel Gregory, Lead Pastor at Linked Up Church.

The church also held a free gospel concert on Good Friday and they’re hosting two Easter services on Sunday as well.
